Spring Production

This year we will be having an evening of one-acts for our spring performance. We will be performing both Cafe Murder and Murder at the Banquet. Both shows are murder-mystery comedies, so it will be an evening full of death, dining, and dismay!

The Grade 9 Drama class has been working hard to put together all elements for Cafe Murder. They have been covering curricular concepts by developing the set, props, costumes, sound and of course the acting.

A group of grade 7-9 students auditioned at the beginning of March for Murder at the Banquet and have been rehearsing daily after school.

The performance will take place on Thursday April 19th at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:30pm and tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 3 and up. All are welcome, and there will be snack and refreshments served during the intermission.

Hope to see you there!

Drama 9 Abstract Tableaux

The past two weeks, the Drama 9 students have been creating an abstract tableaux to end our movement unit. In order to complete this assignment students were given various options for visuals and music. Each group needed to pick one visual and one song to inspire and assist their performance. This was the first performance where students had to incorporate a serious tone for their performance. Students presented these scenes this week. We projected their visual on the wall behind them while their chosen song accompanied their performance. Students did an excellent job of concentrating throughout their performances in order to deliver heartfelt performances. Groups clearly used their rehearsal time well in order to create well-developed stories. This is always a favourite project of mine as a teacher. Well done 9's!

Drama 8 and 9 Field Trip

On Thursday, the students of Drama 8 and 9 attended a field trip to Central Memorial High School to see a performance of Treasure Island. The students had a great time watching the production and after the show, we were invited to stick around for a "talk back" where students were allowed to ask the cast and crew any questions that they had about the performance or story. This was very helpful as the students will be writing a performance review based on what they saw. This will need to comment on acting, costumes, make-up, sound, lighting, special effects, etc. They will have class-time to complete this assignment and it tentatively due for Nov. 30th.

Remembrance Day

On Friday, we had two assemblies in honour of Remembrance Day. Many drama students were involved in these assemblies by helping with sound, lighting, and being the MC's. The Drama 9 class also presented a self-created tribute to the Battle of Passchendaele. The students worked hard as an ensemble to collaborate on ideas and develop a complete performance piece. Students created the script, set, gathered costumes and props, and found appropriate music and sound effects. Students did an amazing job of not only creating the scene, but also performing with minimal rehearsal time. Thank you to everyone that helped with the assemblies, they were very well received!

Halloween Haunted House

Tomorrow the Drama 8 and 9 classes will be hosting a tour of our Halloween inspired Haunted House! All classes were invited to come by and check out our spirited design...if they dared!

The Drama 7 class worked collaboratively to design and create this project. This was a major lesson in set design for these students, and the 8's and 9's put into action their character skills by acting as characters within the Haunted House.

Pictures of this event will be posted shortly. Check back in if you're feeling brave enough...muahahah!
